While the dunk craze is certainly reaching saturation point – I was in Sydney earlier this week and it felt like 40% of children rocked pandasThere is always room for innovation and stunning shoe designs that are decades old. It just doesn’t always have to come from Nike themselves.
Ng Poh Khian from Singapore, also known as Bob, is one of the best sneaker customizers in the worldtaking official shoes and cutting them up, changing colors and adding details to create your own in-demand releases.
his label, Easily*has been (and has been) wearing sneakers like the Air Force 1, Dunks, Blazers, Converse All-Stars and Vans sk8 (just to name a few) for years, but this is his latest work, a pair of Dunks based on the manga/ anime series Initial Dwhat i want to see today.
Based entirely on Takumi Fujiwara’s Toyota Sprinter, they’re not exactly screaming “I’m a sneaker inspired by an old favorite manga” but anyone familiar with the car/series will immediately understand what it’s all about. The colors are perfect, the heel text is essential, the license plate embossed on the midsole is a nice touch and I Indeed for example, a small orange label to indicate indicators.
Here’s a look at the shoes and the car together to give you an idea of what’s borrowed from the tribute:
And here is a mockup of how the shoes will look in the flesh:
When they were first shown on the label’s Instagram page a few days ago, Bob said “this is a sneaker design concept” and that “they’re not available at the moment.”
However, public reception has been so positive since the first images surfaced that there are now details on availability.. Bob has since posted a new post teasing the September release:
As for getting a pair, well it’s 2022, you should already know what to expect, but I’ll write anyway. Because these are usages, you won’t rely on the usual (and completely unworkable) store-to-StockX pipeline; instead of they are purchased directly from Bob, albeit at very short notice and for a lot of of money.
