For centuries, PS Plus was just a perks program for people who played video games on the PlayStation console. After restarting in June 2022now it’s also a true games-on-demand service, filled with a library of games that you can download and play on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 (provided you’ve signed up for the correct level).

Unfortunately, PS Plus held back by an unnecessarily confusing tier system that determines which perks you can actually use. It breaks down like this:

  • PS Plus Basic: $10 a month gives you the same perks that PS Plus has always given you: two free games a month, in addition to the ability to play online multiplayer games.
  • PS Plus Extra: $15 per month gives you access to a vast library of PS4 and PS5 games.
  • PS Plus Premium: $18 per month, in addition to the Extra benefits, gives you access to games from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PlayStation Portable libraries. You can also showcase some blockbusters.

Right now, given the meager state of the service’s library of classic games, we’re focusing on the games included in the Extra tier. PS Plus has no shortage of tentsincluding many own games (Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman Marvel, Demon Souls remake). It also includes top-notch games from the world’s biggest publishers (say hello to everyone! Assassin’s Creed Valhalla). You probably know they exist and are worth checking out. These are deep cuts. Here, without further ado, are the best games for Sony’s updated PS Plus.
