After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this yearpublisher Electronic Arts decided to remove all Russian parties from FIFA 22. They don’t have to do the same for FIFA 23because those teams will never make it into the game.
In a statement issued EurogamerEA said:
EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like many voices in the football world, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.
In accordance with our partners in FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not include the Russian national team or Russian clubs in FIFA 23.
Previously, FIFA games involving the Russian team and several clubsbye later games involved the entire Russian Premier League. Them removal and subsequent absence completely out of the game definitely won’t be a big problem for anyone outside of Russia, especially to everyone who is interested in recreating real tournaments, because national clubs of the country was banned from participating in pan-European competitions after the invasion, while the national team was excluded from the World Cup qualification process. They are not conceded either in these tournaments or in this game.
You probably remember that Russia hosted the last World Cupwhich took place nine years ago, in 2018, and therefore was awarded stars both in the tournament itself, and its accompanying video game. Putin had a great time leadinghis triumph of soft power, while FIFA’s awarding the final to the country was seen as an extremely tricky move.
Things are definitely better now, right? Notupcoming Qatar The World Championship was awarded under even more corrupt circumstances, to a country that was too hot in the summer fails to offer even the weakest protection to gay fans as well as built their stadiums on the bodies of thousands of dead slaves. Oh, good!
