Little-known Japanese game Aconcagua for PS1 will soon be released in English

Back in 2000, Sony released a game called aconcagua for PlayStation 1. Adventure game set in the aftermath of a plane crash in the Andes. For the past 22 years, it has only been available in Japanese. Until now!

Hilltop-who we covered last year for them work on racing lagoon– July 11 will release an English-language patch that will finally make the game available to everyone who can read this post.

To be honest, I’ve never heard of this game until today, and a quick search reveals that it’s not exactly considered a classic (Famitsu’s 29/40 was never great, even then), but how racing lagoon, that’s not the issue here. The thing is, this game interestingand almost none of us had a chance to play it, so it would be great to get a chance to check it out.

aconcagua you play as multiple characters (you can switch between them) after only five people (including a journalist and a political leader) survive a plane crash in South America caused by a terrorist bombing. It has a third-person view and you roam the snowy mountaintop, solving puzzles and helping other survivors down to the bottom without being killed by said terrorists.

Here are some stills from the original Japanese release: note that it actually already has a lot of English in it, but only for cutscenes and voiceovers; all text required for the game was in Japanese:
