Those sneaky loot boxes containing randomized goodies might be a thing of the past Overwatch 2will release later this year, but a recent poll suggests the hero shooter’s monetization could get more aggressive elsewhere.
Apparently, Overwatch 2 in-game store can charge you up to $45 for a single skin – or at least Blizzard seems to be testing the idea. Recently twitter user portergaug uploaded screenshots from a survey received by their friend Overwatch asking them how much money they are willing to pay for skins and other rewards in Overwatch 2. In the survey, players were asked whether it was “highly likely”, “somewhat likely”, “very unlikely or unlikely”, “somewhat unlikely” or “very unlikely” to buy new rewards in the game.
The asking prices in the survey are as follows:
- Mythic Skin – $44.99
- Legendary Skin Pack (Including Weapon Amulet, Player Icon, Victory Pose, Voice Line, Name Card, and Spray) – $29.99
- Legendary Skin – $24.99
- Emote Highlight Intro Souvenir – $19.99
- The weapon symbol is $9.99.
- Set of 3 sprays – $4.99.
“This survey is entirely designed to better understand player preferences in different types of games. Overwatch 2 cosmetics, and Overwatch spokesperson said Kotaku by email. “The prices shown in the survey were randomized for each user and are not final. We plan to share details about our store and the Battle Pass system closer to launch on October 4th.”
As the survey emails were sent out, the asking prices didn’t sit well with the players.
“Hey, I would literally at any cost buy Overwatch 2 instead of playing with money everywhere for free”, one twitter user said.
“And then I thought that I had already been gouged Halo Infinite imao, another twitter user said..
“I know some people [are] is going to defend prices and say: “Don’t buy, etc., this[ a free to play] the game,'” said a Reddit user.. “People like you who defend this shit is why the gaming industry [is] entering [an] abyss”.

During Overwatch 2 “reveal event” – which details the game’s seasonal roadmap and features a cinematic trailer for the new Junker Queen tank character – Overwatch the team explained that Overwatch 2 there will be no loot boxes. The event was teased that a battle pass and in-game store would be coming soon. the game.
Again in the old Overwatch days, players unlocked skins, emotes, voice lines, and sprays by leveling up and opening loot boxes. If players wanted to unlock a specific skin, for example, Full skin of Dawn from the 80s (her only good one), they’ll either have to accumulate enough in-game coins by getting duplicate items in loot boxes to unlock a skin from her character gallery, or go through the full gamut of buying multiple loot boxes in the hope that the skin will be among their loot. Overwatch also has a special in-game store where players can buy loot boxes for real currency. Compared to Overwatch 2the asking price for one mythic skin, buying 50 loot boxes cost players $39.99, exactly five dollars less.
Most likely the prices Overwatch 2 the skins in the poll will not be the final price when the game releases later this year and that was Overwatch a team’s way of estimating how much players are willing to spend on cosmetic items. However, it’s a bad indicator when a game asks you to shell out the same amount of money for a full game on a single skin.
Overwatch 2 will be released October 4th.
